New year resolution - discipline

I consider myself an educated human being. I studied, I am passionate about history and philosophy, and yet I seem to fail and basic things in life, where I am overtaken by people with pure persistence and who take care of the simple things first.

Eating reasonably well and doing some form of sport or working out, easily puts you in the top 10% of the population in terms of health, vitality and attractiveness. That is definitely true in my age category (around 40). Yet that's not something that was instilled in me in all those years of tough, high intensity education. The focus was always on getting a good job, with a high salary, even at the cost of stress, lack of sleep, no physical activity etc.

What use are all those hours of homework if our bodies fail us from midlife on. We might hold on for a few more decades, but our quality of life is decreasing drastically already. Having back pain, high risk of heart attacks and low energy does not in any way compensate those extra euros in salary. I would swap those in a minute for more instilled discipline in regard to physical health and nutritional discipline.
