If it bleeds, we can kill it

I have been re-watching Predator for decades now. It was probably the first "horror" that I have seen as a child, I still remember the videotape that my dad brought home and the discussion they had if I should be allowed to watch it. I do not remember if they allowed me then, or later, or if maybe I sneakily watched it alone, but the important thing is that it has been a staple of my movie nights every since.

There are obvious qualities to the movies. Building the tension, starting out as an action movie and ending up as a sci-fi horror slasher, the simple yet effective music, and a cast of actors that did a lot, even tough talent might not be what we associate them with. Being in a vast jungle also makes us feel unusually claustrophobic. While all these are great, my favourite thing about it is the guys working towards a goal. They might not like it, they might not understand it, there is even some slight complaining here and there, but they will all be dedicated 100% to it.

Whenever I feel a bit lost, not knowing what life is all about, I usually re-watch it, for the boost of stoic philosophy. Focus on what is your control, move further, strategise. Accept the hunt.
