I don't want your highlight reel

I am reading the autobiography of former Dutch prime minister Ruud Lubbers, and I really dislike these flowery descriptions.

Everything was rosy. His forefathers went on adventures when they left their parents' home. His parents met for the first time in a slow motion scene from a romantic movie.

I read autobiographies because they make me feel like I am drinking a beer with the writer. I want to learn from your life and know how it shaped you into the person you became.

If you are writing your story as a masturbatory exercise, I don't want to read it.
